How can you inspire people and keep their morale up? The secret is to make them think less about themselves and more about the team. Involve them in a crusade against a hated enemy. Make them feel that the success of the army as a whole depends on their survival. In a group where people are really connected and united by something, the moods and feelings are so contagious that it will not be difficult to inspire the army. You must be ahead of everyone else: let the soldiers in the trenches see that you are ready to sacrifice yourself. This will inspire them to follow you, so that they will try to earn your approval. Reward and punishment should be equally rare but significant events. Remember: an enthusiastic army can make wonders, and enthusiasm and inspiration will more than make up for the lack of any technical and material resources.
