PHILOSOPHY OF WAR

"Remember the War" essay by the First World War veteran, Colonel of the Tzarist army A. L. Mariushkin (1877-1946) discusses themes of modern and future wars, problems of armed force build-up and reforms, readiness for war as a pledge of peace. The author considers pacifism as main threat to peace.

In general, this essay outlines a number of issues that root from previous wars and which we will inevitably face in the future. Whether it happens tomorrow or only in decades, the essence of the problem remains unchanged.

The most important thing in matters of war and peace is constant readiness, measured not only by the readiness of the army, but also by the readiness of the people, the whole country.

Without claiming to be a pioneer in this area, Mariushkin argues that the fate of every nation is determined only by the power of its armed forces and respect for the army. And this respect is proved by real deeds, and not by empty words and raising glasses.
