TUNNEL WARFARE

Tunnel warfare is a generic name for combat operations conducted in tunnels and other underground cavities. It includes the construction of underground facilities for the purpose of attack or defense and the use of existing dungeons of natural (caves) and artificial (catacombs, urban communications, etc.) origin for military purposes. The purpose of such actions is to capture or destroy enemy fortifications that are impregnable to ground attacks, or to shelter their troops from enemy shelling.
